Larry Don Langston Sr.
October 7, 1951 — December 31, 2023
Larry Don Langston Sr., 72, of Topeka, passed away, after a long battle with cancer, Sunday, December 31, 2023 in his home, surrounded by his loving family and his beloved Babe II.
He was born October 7, 1951, in Sulphur, Oklahoma, the son of Edward Ray and Patricia (Blakeman) Smith. He served in the Marines for 2 years during the Vietnam conflict.
Larry was employed by Vic Yarrington Oldsmobile for many years, as a mechanic, as well as a Supervisor at Essex Wire for 17 years. He retired from the Kansas Highway Patrol as a MAV Unit Technician in 2014. In his retirement years he worked part time for Menards.
Larry married Donna Kay Maner on June 13, 1973 in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Shannon (Rob) Bolin, Rachel (Grant) Peters, Larry (Tristen) Langston Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sisters, Deborah Smith and Cindy (Keith) Bleakley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, T.W. Langston, Patricia Smith, and Edward Ray Smith; and sister, Diane Whitmore.
Larry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and enhancing his '69 Nova and participating in local car shows. He loved road trips, especially to the Smokey Mountains. You could find him working in the yard, sitting on the deck bird watching while listening to Country music, or watching TV with his precious chihuahua Babe II. He was also an AVID Chiefs Football Fan.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Friday January 5, 2024 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka. The family will receive friends Thursday January 4, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
