Harvey Nichols Ferguson

Harvey Nichols Ferguson, 98, of Topeka, passed away on December 12, 2023 at Stormont Vail Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1925 in a farm house just outside of Silver Lake, Ks to Oscar and Aline (Tilford) Ferguson. He lived in Silver Lake until he entered the Army in 1943. He served in the Philipines and New Guinea with the Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Upon return to the states with a rank of T4, he attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1950 with a Degree in Business Administration.

He married Ruth Marceil Henderson on December 19, 1948. They lived in Manhattan, Ks until 1950 when he took a position with AOUW Life Insurance Company and moved to Newton, Ks. In 1951, he took a new job with Victory Life Insurance in Topeka where he remained until his retirement in 1984. During his time with Victory Life, he rose from a beginning in the mail room to Secretary-Treasurer of the company. Following retirement, he worked as a bookkeeper for Bill Lewis Realtors until 1994.

He and his wife were early members of the Crestview Methodist Church in Topeka and he served as Treasurer for the Cosmopolitan Club of Topeka for a number of years.

Harvey loved to travel, making 5 trips to Europe and 6 trips to Kansas State Bowl Games. He visited every state West of the Mississippi except for 2 as well as Washington DC and West Point Academy in the East. He loved music; attending concerts at Washburn or in Gage Park, singing in the church choir, or just playing the harmonica for friends. He was an avid sports enthusiast, closely following KSU, KU, the Royals, and the Chiefs.

He is preceded in death by his wife Marceil (Henderson) Ferguson; his parents, Oscar and Aline Ferguson; 2 sisters, Estelle Wyatt and Mary Louise Glick and 3 brothers, Clem Ferguson, Milton Eugene Ferguson, and Warner Lee Ferguson.

Harvey is survived by his daughter, Shari Crites; son, Kent Ferguson; 5 grandchilden, Lisa Wolhuter, Heather Meisinger, Jordan Lisher, Hilary Postlethwaite, Jackson Ferguson; and 8 great grandchildren, Kelby (Meisinger) Mayfield, Jessica Meisinger, JD Meisinger, Pierce Lisher, Mason Lisher, Madeline Lisher, Ruby Postlethwaite, and Jackson(Jack) Ferguson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, 4:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, 10:00 am at the Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Dr, Topeka, KS 66614.

Graveside Service will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Kansas State University Foundation, and Crestview Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Dr, Topeka, KS 66614.
