Franklin "Frank" D. Morris, 84, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023. He was born November 2, 1939 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Frank and Eva (Wright) Morris.
Frank married Sandra (Sandy) Gayle Morris on July 20, 1963 in Topeka, Kansas and they were married for 60 years. Frank would always remind his wife "I love you to the moon and back." They had one daughter, Rene Ann Morris.
Frank proudly served in the United States Army and afterward began his lifelong interest in working with automobiles. Frank earned his Automotive Mechanic Certificate from Topeka's Area Vocational Technical School. He began his career working for AAMCO Transmission and eventually became the owner of his own business, Frank's Automatic Transmission for more than a decade. He finished his career at Certified Transmission of Topeka. His passion for automobiles included a fondness for racing.
Together, Frank and Sandy shared a love of the outdoors and of camping, returning to favorite spots to boat and fish, making lifelong friends on their travels. Family was a central part of their lives together; Frank enjoyed the many holiday celebrations and get togethers with all of his extended family. Taking care of his home and yard and enjoying the fruits of his gardening were year-long activities. He kept up with his favorite sports teams, the Chiefs, the Royals, and KU. He and Sandy had season tickets for KU basketball for many years; they loved the energy of the stadium and watching their team up close.
Frank and Sandy always had a pet – cats but mostly dogs. Always well-trained, the dogs brought them so much joy and the animals' colorful personalities reflected the love and attention Frank and Sandy gave to them.
Franklin leaves behind his wife, Sandy Morris; brother, Eugene Morris of Evanston, Wyoming and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rene Ann Morris, his parents and his siblings, Robert "Bob" Morris and Lois Haid.
