Shirley Boies Holt, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
She was born February 18, 1933, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Laurel C. Boies and Helen (Fisher) Boies. She lived in Silver Lake until 1941 when her family moved to Topeka. She attended Topeka Public Schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1951. She married W. Keith Holt on February 14, 1953. From this union there are four children: D. Bruce Holt (deceased), Susan E. Martin (deceased - survived by her husband Bob), Cynthia K. Holt (KaLynn) and Michael A. Holt; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Joann Cole and survived by Joann's children, niece Elizabeth Munns (Hunter) of Topeka and her two children and nephew David Cole (Jeanne) in Colorado and his three children.
Shirley was employed as an Administrative Secretary for USD #501 for 24 1/2 years, retiring in 1995. She was president of the Topeka Association of Education Office Personnel and president of the Kansas Association of Educational Office Personnel. She was awarded Secretary of the Year for the State of Kansas and for USD #501. She was a member of the University United Methodist Church and served as president of the United Methodist Women from 1964 to 1965. She also served as president of the Topeka Association of Retired School Personnel (TARSP). She loves her four children and six grandchildren, her niece and nephew and their kids.
Shirley enjoyed quilting, outdoors, reading, and playing cards with her ladies group.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the University United Methodist Church, 1621 SW College Avenue in Topeka, Kansas. There will be a visitation for one hour before the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to the University United Methodist Church.
