Debbie Scholl

Deborah "Debbie" (Owen) Scholl, 66, of Topeka, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 15, 2022. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana and friend.

She was born on January 29, 1956, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, the daughter of USAF Lieutenant Colonel Richard and Jacqueline (Oppendike) Owen. She graduated from Topeka West High School in 1974. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Washburn University and later graduated with her Master's Degree from Baker University.

Debbie cherished her family tremendously. Her children grew up in a house full of love and laughter, and remember their mother as their greatest advocate, cheerleader, and audience. She spoiled her five grandsons endlessly – she made their favorite foods, searched for the perfect gifts, and saved countless pictures and memories for each of their individual scrapbooks.

The Christmas season was Debbie's favorite time of year. She made her home a holiday haven with countless snowmen and Santa figurines throughout the house. She would bake an incredible spread of the family's favorite treats and shared these goodies with friends and neighbors.

If Debbie wasn't with her family, you could find her at her church, Topeka Bible Church. She was deeply devoted to her faith, which she shared with hundreds of children through the years while teaching Sunday school. She continued to share her hope in Jesus until her very last days.

Debbie had a green thumb and found her flower garden, and caring for otherwise difficult plants like orchids, to be relaxing and rewarding. The flowers in her yard flourished every year and everyone in the neighborhood enjoyed them.

Hardworking and selfless, Debbie excelled at her nursing career, even traveling the country for meaningful healthcare work at a time when others would have eased into retirement. She was a role model to so many who knew her professionally and personally. Debbie was a loyal friend and a source of wisdom to so many who came to rely on her strength and example.

Debbie married the love of her life, Donald "Don" Scholl, who survives her, on October 17, 1975 in Topeka, Kansas at First Baptist Church. Other survivors include her children, Bekah (Jasien) Swords, Nathan Scholl, and Jacob (Stacey) Scholl; grandsons, Henry Swords, Silas Swords, Baker Swords, Declan Scholl, and Sutton Scholl; sisters, Kathie (Mark) Taylor and Susan (Jay T.) Ladenburger; brother, John (Tamie) Owen; Bernie Owen; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son, Luke Scholl, and grandson, Emmett Swords.

A Memorial Celebration of her life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 SW Mulvane Topeka, Kansas 66604. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service.

Private burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Debbie's name may be made to Topeka Bible Church 1135 SW College Ave, Topeka, KS 66604, Topeka, KS for scholarships to Camp Catapult Vacation Bible School.
