Sharon K. Swan, 73, Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013.

Sharon was born August 5, 1939 in Silver Lake, the daughter of Emerson and Edna (Dean) Bailey. She graduated from Silver Lake High School and attended Kansas State University.

Sharon married John Swan on April 20, 1963 in Topeka. Together they owned and operated Swan’s Formal Wear for 37 years. She served on the Board of Directors of the International Formal Wear Association and as President in 1994. She later did bookkeeping for several businesses including Medallion Homes and the YWCA.

She will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving and generous person. She enjoyed golfing, singing and playing bridge. She was a great cook and loved to throw a party.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years; daughters Melinda (Bobby) Mann, Melissa (Stuart) Pitney, all of Topeka; son, W. Mirl (Kera) Swan, Olathe; grandchildren, Justin Bauer, Megan Mann, Jacob and Ethan Pitney; and brothers, Gary Bailey, Wichita, and Lanny Bailey, Silver Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Sharon will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Monday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
